By 1947 the British Motor Racing Research Trust estimated that the project would require £50 000 per year for five years. The BRM organization was revised in July 1947 when the British Motor Racing Research Trust was formed. In the spirit of wartime Britain a national appeal had been launched. Thus, the main objective of the Trust was to handle the collection of monies from subscriptions, which were incoming from companies and the public.

These have included missions to Malaysia and Sydney and in October 1998 the MIA sponsored the United Kingdom’s representation to Japan for the Regulations and Safety 27 British Motor Show at Yokohama. Here 50 per cent of exhibition and travel costs were to be met by the DTI and over 150 000 people were expected to attend. MIA Chief Executive Officer Chris Aylett set the organization and himself six highlighted targets to achieve in 1998 and is currently delivering on those promises. The MIA and its objective of ‘one voice for an overlooked industry’ seemed set for success.

In spite of his exhortation to British industry to ‘export or bust’ the Chancellor gave his support to the project and promised that the Ministry of Supply would ensure that the BRM was given priority in materials. This level of official UK interest in motor racing remains unprecedented. Even the voice of a contemporary Times leader column recorded its support for the project in emotive and dramatic terms. The article considered that the failure of British industry to produce a race winning Grand Prix car was a reflection of Britain’s position as a declining industrial power and continued … ‘Failure in this undertaking must be as unthinkable as it was in the preparations for the Schneider Trophy races in 1929 and 1931’.
